Historically, it served as a major political and military hub in Yoruba land, An administrative capital during the colonial era, a centre of education, hosting Nigeria’s first university (University of Ibadan), a melting pot of commerce, culture, and intellectual thought This foundation gave Ibadan a natural advantage, large population, strategic location, intellectual heritage, and cultural depth; elements essential for any powerful African city.

The present Oyo State administration has intentionally focused on modernization without erasing history, ensuring inclusive development that strengthens Ibadan’s regional and continental relevance.

The government has invested heavily in reconstruction and expansion of major roads and inner-city route, modern bridges and drainage systems to address flooding, improved traffic flow and connectivity across the metropolis. These projects have enhanced mobility, reduced travel time, and improved business efficiency; key indicators of a functional modern city.
